Dear Parents,
7But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise
thyself rather unto godliness. 8For
bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is
profitable unto all things, having promise of the
life that now is, and of that which is to come
(1Timothy 4:7-8).
The administration and staff of C.C.S. have an
agenda for your children. Our concern is for three
dimensions of their life: the soul, mind and body.
Or to put it another way, their saving relationship
with Jesus Christ; distinguishing truth from error
by education and the Word of God; and the physical
fitness of their bodies. I say the spiritual first
because in the text quoted, godliness is mentioned
twice in comparison to fables and physical fitness.
That is because a child’s relationship to the Lord
in foundational to all other areas of life (...but
godliness is profitable unto all things). God,
as the architectural engineer of the human being,
created man in His own image, with the capacity to
know God personally, through saving faith in Jesus
Christ. This establishes the root of godliness,
and that is the primary goal of C.C.S. for each
student. Building upon this foundation is our vision
for the education of your children, since that is
God’s pattern for learning; the fear of the Lord
is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7).
This is not education for the sake of learning,
that is the template of secular education, but
rather for the purposes of godly wisdom and
discernment between truth and error and most
important, the knowledge of a holy God. Here is a
learning paradigm that is advantageous to all areas
of life, nothing excluded.
God makes clear to us that this life is not the only
life we will experience. There is ...the life
that now is and of that which is to come.
This means that the godliness and knowledge we build
into your children today will have eternal
consequences. So our goals are long term, extending
into the eternal kingdom of God. The value and
purpose of Christian education is elevated above all
other systems of learning, because all others only
serve temporary interests, whereas God centered
scholastics also prepares for the permanent eternal
service of our Creator God. This is what God means
when he says godliness is advantageous for all
things, having promise of the life that now is
and that which is to come.
Secondary to all of this, but of importance, is the
responsibility we have to teach them how to properly
care for their bodies, which were created by God.
Physical fitness is also rooted in godliness and is
useful for living and practical service for Jesus
Christ.
As the pastor of South Dade Baptist Church and
Colonial Christian School, my hope is that you will
embrace this biblical agenda for education and
participate with the staff in the fruition of these
goals for your children in the 2008-2009 school
year. Let us work together to honor God in the
preparation of your children for this life and
eternity.
In His Service,
Pastor Bill Long

Psalm 127:1
Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain
that build it:
except the LORD keep the city, the watchman wakes
but in vain.
